What to Expect When Rebranding

Writer: Laura DiSanzaLaura DiSanza

If you’ve been in business for a couple years now, and you’re itching for something that gets you to the next level…

It might be time for your rebrand.

Rebranding is SUCH an exciting experience. You’ve graduated from those first months, clients and experiences as a business owner. The business you dream of feels a lot closer. Your current clients are amazing, and you’re grateful for them. But you’re ready for more.

As the CEO and founder of a design studio, I’ve helped countless service providers with their rebrands over the past 5 years.

Keep on reading so you know what to expect when you’re rebranding.

What’s a rebrand?

A rebrand is when you re-do the branding your business currently has.

It doesn’t matter if the previous iteration of your branding was something you DIY’d. Maybe a family acquaintance did your branding as they built out their portfolio. Maybe your branding was done professionally, but you don’t want to work with that brand designer again (which is totally okay!).

All that matters is that you have branding to work from. And you have an idea of what you want your rebrand to signify (we’ll talk about that later).

When should I rebrand?

Most of my clients come to me for a rebrand for 3 reasons.

REBRAND REASON #1: Your services are changing.

As your experience in business grows, you began to realize some things. You either LOVE working with a certain type of client. You DESPISE offering a certain set of services. Or you want to completely switch up your offerings.

A rebrand signals to your clients and community that a change is coming.

REBRAND REASON #2: Your ideal client is changing.

When you first started your business, you played small. Getting yes's from less experienced clients with smaller budgets felt easier.

But now, you’re ready to work with the clients you really want to work with. Dream clients in a certain target market or who have a certain budget.

Want to attract a different ideal client? Is your current branding attracting the type of client you dream of working with? If you said yes to either, you need a rebrand.

REBRAND REASON #3: You’re entering a new era as a business owner.

Sometimes, the reason for a rebrand isn’t that deep.

Maybe you started your business with DIY branding because you were scrappy. Maybe you didn’t realize how important a professional brand is for your marketing. Maybe your business is pivoting. Maybe you finally have the knowledge and funds to invest in proper brand design.

Maybe … (you know where I’m going with this) you need a rebrand.

How to prep for your rebrand

Before reaching out to a brand designer for a rebrand, you’ll need to get these things in order.

  • Audit your current branding. What do you like about the visual imagery, the color palette, the fonts, the vibes? What do you dislike or wish were different?

  • Audit the branding of your competitors. What do you like about their branding? What do you not like about it? Do you see any opportunity gaps you can capitalize on?

  • Audit your Ideal Client Avatar. Who is she? What problem does she need solved? What is she interested in? How does she view herself and her business? How does your service solve her problem? What do you want her to feel when she comes across your branding?

  • Audit for business. What’s your USP (unique selling point)? Why does your ideal client choose you to work with over your peers? What’s your vision for your business? What price point do you want to serve and attract? What adjectives do you want associated with your business or branding?

This information helps your brand designer craft your custom brand design and strategy. The ultimate goal is to position your business as the go-to in your industry.

What does a successful rebrand look like?

A successful rebrand is more than making your brand look prettier.

Every visual element in your brand strategy is there for a reason.

From the color palette to the font styles to the shapes of your icons to the logo suite, and more. It all plays a part to give the first impression you WANT to give your ideal clients.

When you decide to rebrand your business with DiSanza Digital, here’s what the process looks like:

  • You fill out a brand questionnaire sharing ALL the things. Your likes, dislikes, personal vision, business vision, unique selling point, ideal client, and current branding.

  • You share the visuals you’re attracted to, and what gives you the ick in a shared Pinterest board (this part is fun!).

  • We hop on a quick call to clarify your brand questionnaire and Pinterest board. Then I start crafting your brand strategy.

  • You’ll receive two mood boards of potential brand design direction we can take. After picking your favorite, I build out your entire brand design and strategy.

When we're done, you'll receive education on how to successfully implement your rebrand. All that juicy info on how to use your brand assets lives in your “Brand Guidelines” packet.

Conclusion

With a little bit of prep, your rebrand will be super easy, super enjoyable, and super successful.

If your services are changing, your target market is shifting, or you’re ready to breathe new life into your business... It's time for a rebrand.

Whenever you’re ready, I’m here to help you. I specialize in brand design and strategy for service-based businesses. (Bonus points if you crave color and fun in your branding.  Because no one has time to blend in with all those beige brands anyways.)
